After repeated visits to their daughter’s pediatrician, Kim and Joe Westrich of Wiscasset found themselves at The Barbara Bush Children’s Hospital being told that 2-year old Maddie had a brain tumor. She was admitted immediately and surgery was scheduled. After a month at the hospital, Maddie was discharged and has been having follow-up MRIs at Maine Medical Center ever since.
That initial visit took place back in 2008. After years of specialist care, Maddie is now a happy and healthy 10-year old. However, Kim and Joe have never forgotten that day or the compassionate care that they and their daughter received at BBCH. That’s why they vowed to give back to the hospital and the 38,000 children cared for each year in this family-centered, close to home setting.
As a nonprofit hospital, BBCH gratefully relies on the support of the community to maintain the level of care that children in Maine need and deserve. The opportunity to generate additional funds through a specialty license plate would have a profound impact on patient care. Kim Westrich “All of us in the State of Maine should be doing all that we can to ensure that the wonderful facility that is The Barbara Bush Children’s Hospital and its staff of professional care givers have all the resources they need to continue providing the best medical care possible. I cannot express the feeling of comfort my family and I have felt with the services and staff at this hospital. They have become like family to us. We all hope that our children will never need The Barbara Bush Children’s Hospital, but we should be relieved and proud to know it is there if we do.”
